Size: 10mm to 40mm (some species can be much larger)

Emergence Period: Mid to late Summer

Habitat:

  • Grasshoppers are not an aquatic insect, however they are often blown into the water, or accidentally jump into it.
  • Good stream areas to fish a hopper imitation are those that have a lot of grass or wildflowers along the shoreline.

Behavior:

  • Once landing in water, grasshoppers immediately begin swimming towards shore, where they will crawl out of the water.
  • Imitations should plop down hard on the water
